Bromford Flagship has welcomed the government’s announcement of a £2bn boost for social and affordable housing, describing it as a vital opportunity to accelerate progress on delivering much-needed homes across the country.

The investment, announced by Housing and Planning Minister Matthew Pennycook, is the largest of its kind in a generation and is designed to support housing associations and local authorities in fast-tracking delivery under the existing Affordable Homes Programme.

Robert Nettleton, Chief Executive of Bromford Flagship, said: “The £2bn funding top-up for social and affordable homes is very welcome and could accelerate the start of several large-scale strategic sites across the South West, Midlands and East Anglia.”

The announcement comes shortly after the formation of Bromford Flagship — the newly merged organisation combining Bromford Housing Group and Flagship Housing Group. Now managing approximately 80,000 homes, the organisation has significantly increased its financial capacity, with the potential to deliver 2,000 homes per year for the next 30 years. Half of these homes are expected to be at social rent.

The scale of this new organisation places it in a strong position to make swift and strategic use of this funding injection, building high-quality homes in areas of greatest need and supporting communities to thrive.

Nettleton added: "The need for affordable homes has never been more pressing. This funding, combined with our strengthened capacity following the merger, enables us to act at pace and scale to meet that need — helping more people find a place to call home."
