£22 million boost to make Bromford Flagship homes warmer and greener
Hundreds of social rent homes will become warmer and more energy-efficient thanks to a major funding boost for Bromford Flagship.
The housing provider has secured nearly £22 million from the government’s Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3 to upgrade homes across its network.
The Bromford subsidiary has been awarded £6.9 million, while the Flagship subsidiary will receive £14.6 million.
The funding will be used to install energy-saving measures such as air source heat pumps, solar panels, insulation, and double glazing—helping tenants cut energy bills and live more comfortably.

David Armstrong, Chief Operating Officer of Bromford Flagship (pictured above), said: "We’re proud to have been offered this funding, which will help us future-proof thousands of homes. Investing in energy efficiency not only lowers bills but also reduces our carbon footprint. This is a major milestone in our journey towards net zero and a huge win for our customers."
The grants are part of the government’s wider Warm Homes Plan, which aims to make up to 170,000 homes across England more energy efficient. The latest funding round sees £1.8 billion allocated to local authorities and housing providers.
Previous phases of the scheme, which Bromford and Flagship have been part of since 2022, have already helped hundreds of households. Homes have received upgrades including air source heat pumps and external wall insulation, reducing energy consumption.
Allan Chettiar, Flagship's Energy and Sustainability Officer, explained how heat pumps are more efficient than traditional gas boilers: "Heat pumps work best when they run steadily, keeping homes warm without using excess energy.

John Philips, a Bromford Flagship customer, with rooftop solar panels installed in a previous wave of the scheme.
He said: “Think of it like cruising in a car instead of constantly stopping and starting—you use less fuel and get a smoother ride. Paired with better insulation, this means lower energy bills and a more comfortable home all year round."
The merger of Bromford – based in the southwest and central England - and Flagship in the east of England, was completed in February, creating a combined housing provider with more than 80,000 homes.
Bromford Flagship is committed to making all its homes more energy efficient and bringing all of its homes up to at least an EPC C rating to make them warmer, greener, and more affordable to run.
Referring to the group's homes in southwest and central England, Nick Wooldridge, Head of Home Investment at Bromford, said: "89.99% of our customers' homes have an EPC rating of C or above, with all homes set to meet this standard by 2030. This funding will help to make homes more energy efficient — especially important as energy costs continue to rise."
